Founded in 2009, the National Interscholastic Cycling Association (“NICA”) develops interscholastic mountain biking programs for student-athletes across the United States. NICA provides leadership, services and governance for regional leagues to produce quality mountain bike events, and supports every student-athlete in the development of strong mind, strong body and strong character through interscholastic cycling.

In 2018 Wheeling started a team as part of the West Virginia NICA league. The team name is Northern WV Composite MTB Team or "NorComp". If you would like some information on how to get your student-athlete involved with our team, please email Coach Jim at norwvmtb@gmail.com. He can send you information on how to get your child involved. Students in 6th through 12th grade are eligible to race. Girls and boys both are encouraged to join our team.

*Quick Service is involved in supplying kids with bikes and accessories and helping to coach the team.

*Trek offers a discount for any student-athletes (and level 2 and 3 coaches) who would like to purchase select Trek mountain bikes and select accessories.

A little about what the team does:

  • There are 5 races in different parts of WV.

  • We prepare our team for the races with practices at the Heritage Port Trail in Wheeling as well as some of the local single track trails including Bark Camp State Park in St. Clairsville, OH and Grand Vue Park in Moundsville, WV.

  • Our goal is to provide ALL students with a bike even if they cannot purchase one. We have loner bikes available. Please ask coach Jim about this.

  • We discuss things like proper trail etiquette, hydration, nutrition, bike maintenance, and handling the bike, among other things bike-related.
